political predictions?

After hearing good news about my economic stimulus package courtesy of the US economy I decided to head to Selfridges for a fancy lunch. G called me and asked if I would meet him for lunch.  Days with , G start with lunches next to the Mexican embassy and end with dinners in China Town that include an optional two pound expense on the bill for earthquake relief……..  an optional expense that I don’t mind paying. While enjoying some Peking Duck, G and I embarked on a rather interesting conversation pertaining to Sub Saharan African politics. The nations of Sub Saharan Africa are plagued by endemic problems and Zimbabwe is no exception.   I said that Mugabe’s submission of power will only result in an even further devolution in a country ravaged by every sociological, political and economic problem.  For a variety of reasons which include the direct effects of imperialism… in these nations….the susceptibility to coups, civil war, famine and any sort of demographic stress is staggering. G, the creative idealist said I was pessimistic and that there is some hope. Was I being pessimistic or were my years of studying a lose lose situation plaguing my thoughts? Or…..perhaps it was a momentary attack of indigestion from the Peking Duck.  Not so…I came home to find that a think tank published their research on a possible coup prediction in Zimbabwe.

I am currently looking for work in any of London’s progressive think tanks.

The United Kingdom of Texas

Reflecting

I’m a recent transplant from Texas…I’m also half Mexican and half British…I am trying to find my way in London the best the way I know how…through politics.  As a person that follows politics in a general sense, I am always astounded at how much the general British population follows political happenings in England.  It seems that the general population in the United States has only now taken notice of their political surroundings in this election year. Not so in England. It seems where ever I go in London I hear that  “Labour isn’t working”  “the 10 p tax rate will be the end of Gordon Brown” and that after years of voting left…the workers of the nation are voting conservative.  As a person who has studied politics of the Americas for a number of years….the study of British politics will be a refreshing break.

In addition to my unbridled pursuits of London Town…I’ve got my fellow Texan, G who is providing a sunny Texan disposition that is much needed in the gloominess that the weather more than adequately provides.  As an x-pat, G has lived in London for 5 years and is keenly aware of his surroundings…political or otherwise.

Above is a pensive moment of my reflections on my recent move to England.
